I remember as well the duties of putting up the flag every morning and when it rained we needed to rush outside and bring it down since it wasn't supposed to get wet neither should it touch the ground while we carefully folded it in a triangular style and place it in its wooden holder. I loved the flag and still do. It saddens me that the children don't learn to respect the flag and all that it means to us all especially those who served in the wars representing our country.
Thanks for reminding us of the good old days.

Hi there, Jesse, thanks for the incredible review for my National Anthem poem. I appreciate it so very much. I loved hearing your memories too, as so many people are saying the same thing you are. Doesn't that just give you more pride too?
Thanks also for your thoughts and the kind comments, my dear friend.
Love, Debi

I remember when we stood in class each day and said the Pledge of Allegiance with our hand placed on our heart. We took pride in knowing every word. Somehow, the importance of those moments were diminished by some and our country finds itself fighting amongst each other. I could never imagine some one being so disrespectful to the U.S.A. by kneeling. Stand proud for Old Glory and everything it stands for or go live somewhere else.
Your poem is perfect. I loved it!

Carol, you are so sweet. Thank you for sharing your memories with me. It's so nice to hear that you have so many of the same feelings and pride and love for our flag that I do.
I am a big football fan but in 2020 for the season opener of our MN Vikings and the GB Packers wouldn't come out of the locker room for the National Anthem, I boycott football for almost two years. At that time many football players were taking a knee that year.
All because of the George Floyd incident that turns out was a farce by MN politicians. If you want to know what I'm talking about, watch the YouTube video, "The Fall of Minneapolis." You will be shocked.
Anyway, thanks again for the kind comments and six stars too, my dear friend. So appreciated! Love, Debi

The National anthem tugs at the heart each time I hear it. So many events come to mind when we stand and with our hand over our heart, we sing with pride and love for our country.
Sadly we have seen people take a knee or chat during its playing. That I will never understand. They have forgotten those who died for their freedom to be disrespectful.
Well done Debi.
Blessings

Like the rhyme for national pride, even as an Englishmen, I believe in national spirit, and putting a mention to those who fight for it. Well done enjoyed it.

I remember you, Neil. Hi, I think I posted a congrats on your first milestone.
I thank you for the lovely comments for my patriotic poem. I appreciate it very much. So I assume that the four star review that you gave me means it was a slip of the finger.
That happens a lot and if that is the case, it is easily rectified if you just change the rating where you reviewed it, under the poem and save it. Here, a four star review means it cancels out a six and they have to be given with a suggestion of how to improve it.
So I thank you very much, my friend and it is good to see you again..

Great job, dear friend. You say so many things I have thought-in your own special day. I hate that our flag has been disrespected by so many, but even more, I hate the disrespect to God.

Verna, you are such a doll. I get the biggest smile when I get a review from you like this, and it isn't as much about the six stars (that I am truly honored by) as your approval and knowing that you feel the same way about the situations as I do. Love of country and love of God go hand and hand.
Thanks so much for the kindness, my sweet friend, and for the six stars.
You are like a big sister, even if I have three of them already. LOL.
Thanks for the smile too. Hugs and love! Debi

Always glad to be your big sister! xo

Iam a cold war vet and have served my country from a true heart toward my nation. I love it when people stand and honor our flag and sing our national anthem. Lost a lot of friends making this idea real.
Thanks for sharing.

Ben, you are what this poem was all about!! If you read the end where I thank all who served, it is because of you, my dad in WWII, grandpa in WWI, my boyfriend who was killed in Vietnam, etc, etc,....are who this poem is about. Because of you guys that I had to write about the National Anthem because I can't sing that song without crying tears of joy for the ones who came back, and tears of sorrow for who did not. But because of all of you, we are all free. Thank you with all my heart. For your kind words for the poem, but mostly for serving! Bless you, Ben, and so good to see you again too. Love, Debi

Hi Debi
This is a well rhymed an metered poem about your pride in being American. The 'Star Spangled Banner" is a good song. We are all
lucky to be free. I didn't know there was a National Anthem Day.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a great day.
