Well, then, my remarks should make you "smile or chuckle" because I can relate to your experience. I agree, one of the most difficult situations is to have everybody think you are telling a story when in fact your tale is the truth. There is just nothing much you can do about it. But I see "Mama Bear" did plenty about it. Good for her and good for you for continuing your writing, regardless.
Avery good read Debi. Thanks for the smile.

Gary, you are incredibly sweet! I thank you so very much for your kind comments for my "Why I Write" story and for your very thoughtful review.
Yes, my mom was the greatest and had a few really great honors before she died. Such as being honored by Oprah, as I told in our awesome interview that you honored me with. But writing this made me realize where I got that protective nature from; like worrying about you, and still do but I keep giving it to God, and here you are my dear dear friend. Those prayers aren't about to stop, ever. Your kind words are always so appreciated.
And thank you also for generous gift of six stars!

I'm sure those hurtful situations were key to making you an even stronger writer. It's sad your teacher did not believe you could have written your poem. Your mother certainly played a positive role in teaching you to believe in yourself. Nice post.

I'm so glad your mother came to your defense, and I love that she cried with you. You've shared a great story, and your heart as well. Best wishes in the contest. Carol

Your story is most worthy of six stars.

And your mother would be proud. You were a fortunate child to have a mama bear come to the rescue and teach you to believe in your worth as a person and a writer. And because of that you write with clarity and honesty, giving pleasure to all who read your words. Good luck in the contest.

Great artwork. Your granddaughter, Kenzie, has so much talent! This is an interesting thread throughout, as I think many of us write because we are drawn to it, in order to process events in our lives, and/or we hope to reach out and catch the attention and approval of our family, and/or trauma leads us to reconfigure or pain into something healing for ourselves and others You've managed to cover each of these. You'll do fine in this contest. I have no doubt! Many will read this, as I have, and think: "Yes, me too!"

Thanks Sweetie, did you enter or did you miss the deadline? How are you feeling with your foot? Is everything ok? I have been having one of those feelings that something is wrong, that something is off with you and I can't put my finger on it. Please tell me I am wrong! I hope that didn't freak you out. I didn't mean for it to, but maybe it is just that I always notice a timespan between our visits. Maybe that it is all it is.
Anyway, my sweet friend, I thank you so much for your very kind comments for Kenzie, as well as my story. And you are very perceptive yourself,as I have had many say that, and it is doing quite well. So get back to me, ok T.

I think perhaps my latest post will make things clear. No worries, Debi. Your post is beautifully done!

I think this is an excellent story, but it also moved me to tears as I had the same experience with a teacher, but my mother would never have defended me. You were so very fortunate.

Oh Carol, I usually answer my reviews in the order that I get them, but I just have to do yours first. I am so sorry, as I know how it feels, and not have anyone in your corner is the worst. Now I am in tears. But you know what, this is what I was talking about it my story that it is the greatest feeling to connect with someone who can relate. This is not exactly what I meant, but I am glad that you shared with me. Still to this day, is it really hard for you to if someone says something like that to you? Recently it happened here to me, where someone accused me of using jokes off the internet and I could prove that they came from a comic from my dad's WWll days on his ship. But boy it was a painful week with lot's of abuse taken. Finally I just had to mute the guy and tell Tom about it. Anyway, it is over, but those yucky feelings come back and thank you for sharing that with me. Thanks also for the lovely comments, the bonus stars and for reading my story Carol. You are awesome, my dear friend.

I love this story. I can relate to it, as both a mom and a (preschool) teacher. I think teacher-moms have a special situation, in that their loyalty is divided between siding with the school and the other teachers, or siding with their child. But there are times you have to go against the very system you're part of in order to defend your child, and your mom did just that. Great story!

This is a wonderful entry for the contest. Yes, I can relate to what you are saying because I was a pretty good artist when I was in the early grades. We were told to draw something in class and the teacher believe I had traced it instead of just drawing. My mom was my advocate too.

Debi. This is an incredible story for a few reasons. First, the audacity that the teacher thought the poem wasn't yours. She should have either spoke to you in private or, she should have known you, as a student and that you wouldn't do something like that.
Second, the way your mother stood up for you in this moment. It seems that has formed much of who are.
Also, sad I, sorry to hear of your moms at such a young age.
Never stop writing, my friend!
