Yeah, I remember laughing and teasing my folks years ago. Now my kids bust my chops, plus throw back at me the corny things I used to do and say yo them.

Your poem had me laughing from start to finish.

This is hilarious Jim, great inventive language that brings this old fella to life, great rhymes and metre and your skilful pen made me laugh. We can't stop the ageing process, so we might as well accept it and stick two fingers up to those youngsters, and hope they get the privilege of this experience, because age is a great privilege methinks, much enjoyed, wish I had a six, love Dolly x

Yeah, age is a privilege, though I wish I had the mind of a 71-year-old, but the body of a 30-year-old (even a 40-year-old) (heck, even a 50-year-old! At least I wasn't piddling in my pants then.)

Jim, you are absolutely right. It does come around. I, too, have thought about the days I sort of marveled at how old my grandmother was...and she was. But here I am at almost 77. Do you know what she did at 77...She married her boyfriend of 25 years. His wife had died recently. And I am not making that up. Excellent work on the poem. Terry.

Thanks, Terry. Good for your grandma. She didn't let her age get in the way. My mother-in-law is still going strong at 96, though she does fart when she gets up :-)

Hi Jim,
This is a cute poem. It is true for some. But not for me. I don't think I ever made fun of my mom as she got older. I couldn't for my dad because he died at 50.
I have been lucky. I am 62 and the only pill I take is a daily vitamin. My eyesight is bad. But that has been a lifetime thing. I got my first pair of glasses in kindergarten. I do have cataracts which is an aging thing.

No problem, Jim. My mom did take a lot of medications, but she was sharp until near the end when she had cance.
I don?t remember teasing her at my siblings doing it either.

Geez, this is a conversation I was just having with my husband today. "Piddle like a pup" - funny but true!

Jim, I laughed out loud while reading this. Loved the way the old man spoke - kinda like Jed Clampett, lol!

I loved this, Jim - your poetry always makes me laugh, and is always well thought out and written - little touches like dialogue make it.

I so remember when I thought I would never allow these things to happen to me. "There ain't no damn exceptions."

Thanks for your great review, Pam and for the 6 stars. My wife and I laugh about these things together all the time. It's a good thing we're in the same phase of life together and can laugh at ourselves.

My daughter was once married to a man 16 years older than her, and that was our biggest worry about that marriage--that he would be a decrepit old man when she was still relatively young and lively.

I'm at that age where I am old, but not quite old. I live with my mother (because I am ill), and we make fun of each other for being old, fat ladies. Your poem made me think of us. You did a great job describing the perils of old age. Thanks for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Thanks, Jessi, for the great review and the 6 stars. Yeah, my wife and I kid each other a lot about it too. It helps having a spouse the same age who shares many of the same problems of old age and has a good sense of humor.

Yes, this is so true. A while back my oldest son, Greg said, "Mom, I'm getting old. I was playing basketball with some young soldiers, and I can't hang as well as I used to. I said, "Greg, if you're getting old, what does that make me?" Greg laughed and answered, "Mom, really old." HMMM, I'm not sure I liked his answer. Your wisdom shined through with this post, and it was fun to read.
