This house was full of disgusting, wicked scenarios. It evidently was a haunted house that should never have been on the list for Halloween. Just too frightening!

Thank you, Rosemary, for your generous review and comments. In reality, this wasn't frightening. Just in the kids' minds. The kids did some things they shouldn't have and caused an accident, but no one was seriously hurt. And everything in the basement were simply stage props. The only thing slightly scary was the old woman's hex at the end, but in all likelihood, she was only trying to scare the kids. Thanks for reading.

when I was younger, we went to scary movies at midnight and did like scary props. Those days are over when you get older.

well, that was horrifying. "No one was seriously hurt." What about the poor man blown up in his car after they dropped a watermelon from an overpass on him?
Your history at the beginning was interesting, but the destruction done in your story was really terrible.A rampage of senseless vandalism. And, is the hex for the guys in the story or for the reader?
I'm sorry, Ric, but to me, that is one weird story. They may have worked to pay for the vandalism but what about the death they caused?

Katherine, I'm sorry you didn't read it correctly. There was no death caused in this story. There was an imagined vision of a man on fire. The lady sent the hex on the people in the story. No one was seriously hurt, but a couple stitches. Anyway, sorry you didn't get it or like it. The kids did some of the things that many kids do on Halloween, and always have. Luckily no one was seriously hurt. And the kids learned valuable lessons on what not to do.

oh, sorry, Ric. will read it again and go by your explanation.

Yes, this is even out of my comfort zone. But kids do things without thinking first, but no one was seriously hurt. This was patterned after actual events, and the kids learned a valuable lesson after having to scrub bricks for three months. The hex is just an old, probably innocent, women spouting gibberish at children as they leave. Although, I tried to make it a little scary sounding for Halloween. You'll notice I had the cute little Casper, oddly holding Michael Myers hand, which was probably his dad. The adoring women. It's all pretty innocent all together. All but the watermelon dropped on the car. But although I wasn't actually with the children who did this, they had no intention of hurting anyone. They thought the watermelon would bust when it hit the car, but it didn't. The children cried and apologized all night while being interviewed by the police. All charges were eventually dropped. But they learned a valuable lesson, and there were no more tricks from that neighborhood.

This story was jammed packed with thrills and horror, mischief night when I was growing up was the night before Halloween. It always troubled me how children would cause danger, especially to drivers.

Thank you so much, Joann, for your extra special six-star review and kind words. Yes, children do foolish things, but looking at it another way, making mistakes is how they learn what not to do. They learned some valuable lessons in this story. LOL. Luckily no one was seriously hurt. Thanks again for your much appreciated review!

Hey! It was bad enough, relating all those felony crimes committed as a youngster (Were those you?), and you finish with a deathly scene in a house no one would have entered on a dare, then you bribe us to read an ancient Mesopotamian curse?
Yeah, vewwy, vewwy clever!
Happy Halloween!

Thank you so much, Irish, for taking time out to read my foolishness. LOL. I just wanted to get outside my comfort zone and do something different. I wasn't one of the kids who got in trouble, although I said I was. I stayed home that night and handed out candy. And was glad I did once they all got in trouble and had to scrub paint for three months. LOL. I'm glad you like. Much appreciated!

I'm sure I have said this before, but you should have books on the shelves of bookstores everywhere. I enjoy your writing immensely. Reading this is like watching an old master paint a masterpiece from beginning to end. Great job.

O.M.G. I am exhausted after reading that. Firstly thanks for the history lesson. Very interesting. Now for the story. You have a very good imagination Ric (or was it?) I suspect certain aspects were more from memory. This is a fantastic peice of work. You are such a talented writer, definately too good for this site. A large cut above the rest. What more can I say. Have a nice week. Your buddy, Jen.

Well, now I don't have to watch any scary Halloween movies because you provided all the Halloween entertainment I'll ever need. I am glad that the trouble makers were caught and made to do clean up and that the driver of watermeloned car was not seriously hurt!

Thank you so much, Helen, for your extra special six-star review and kind words. Just for clarification, I really wasn't with the group that did all the mischievous things that night. I regularly stayed home on Halloween and handed out candy to the little ones. And boy was I glad I had, when all the kids ended up cleaning paint off bricks for the next three months. LOL. I appreciate YOU!

This seemed a bit different from your usual posts and approach, but it really works well. I enjoyed the intro-history to set the story and every stunt committed by the boys has been seen at sometime, either in a newspaper note of truth or by meaning of warning from a parent. I was spellbound from the beginning to end.

I did not read the deadly hex at the end. My eyes drifted down to the WARNING and I took it seriously. lol.

Excellent work and good read. an

Thank you so much, Ann, for your generous and kind review. It's all the more special when those like you read something like this that's probably outside your comfort zone. I don't believe in all the hex stuff, I just added it to give the ending a zing. It's all just works to me. I appreciate you taking time to read my foolishness!

You did a great job with your creepy story, Ric. I enjoyed reading
it. I liked how you gave readers some history on the original way
it was celebrated and how it changed over the many years. The story
was well thought out. That group of boys was out to play as many
tricks on the neighborhoods as possible. I believe they were hellions.
While they thought everything was in keeping with the celebration
of Halloween, they met their match at the ol' run down house with
the equally old woman. You described the house and the basement
well. I never thought about her being an actor and those creepy
things being props. However, it all fit well into your story. I'm glad
those boys had to 'clean up their act.'
Thanks for sharing, Jan
