Being a composer with a few years experience, and having spent more times in New York than any other major city in the world, (approx 24 weeks)I can tell you, you would certainly need an experienced composer, and New York is like no other place in the world. This would be most quirky Jay, well done, blessings Roy

Roy, thank you for your input. LOL, I wouldn't even consider submitting this to a NYC producer. I'm more thinking of a community college drama department, since they have also a music department. It would just be fun to see it go to production. I'd let my hair grow out and everything. Wear dark glasses and walk with a cane.

Heh heh, I can still do one productions publicly,
reply by the author on 11-Oct-2022
What does that mean: "one productions"?

One man productions, did I leave a vital word. Plays have too many characters, heh heh.

Oh! Now it makes perfect sense. Thanks for clarifying.

Wow! I am overwhelmed with the scene created here of the New York City Department of Human Development's director and staff. There is definitely a movement to begin the reemployment of the masses. Timely indeed.

Oh, Man -- I don't know quite how to thank you for this. It means so much to me, Bill! Now, hopefully, you can get the circulation back in your arm, LOL,

An avid theatre goer, so I wanted to have a go at reviewing this. Not really savvy in the script writing department, aside from the one script I ever read and studied at any length, on John Merrick, The Elephant Man. So thanks for the explanations on lighting, left and right stage etc.

I got great enjoyment reading the delivery of the lines, stage set and design, light and fade to background, the weather that rides across the stage, through an open door and the street passing by in window views. I have to say I enjoyed all those details and the chorus lines. I actually saw someone more like Lea Michele, starring in your musical a bit more contemporary to attract new audiences, perhaps? But of course Liza Minnelli is a favourite and a classic singer-dancer-actress.
Well my review ends here, cannot go deeper than my knowledge, only as deep as my love for the theatre.
All the best. An very enjoyable production.
M.

Do keep an eye out for it (ugg!), or at least look for it a week from Saturday. I don't think I'll have the second scene ready by this coming Saturday, my usual posting day. Oh, I'm so excited to have you in the audience!

You got me with "moved his bowels" chorus. I can honestly see this going to Broadway. It was campy and over the top. Loved the description of him coming in and shaking the snow off his hat. I SAW that happening. Great start. Looking forward to more. Gretchen

You make me so happy with your reaction to this, Gretchen. A musical is a departure for me. Your six has me grinning ear-to-ear!

Jay, I enjoyed reading this musical script you have penned. I enjoyed your words and the large print too. Thank you for sharing. I hope I get to read the next one also. Wish I had six stars I would have given you them! Blessings, Teri

Jay, I really tried to envision the scene, but I'm not sure if I got it right. Obviously neither a playwright nor a director will I be. lol The story line, however, has caught my attention. And I like Liza for singing New York, New York. It would have stayed in my head all day, but we had to go to town and Jim had the oldies radio station on. That took care of that. I do enjoy watching musicals, but I have no idea of the work it takes to put them together. I look forward to following this one.

I just wanted to make sure the reader sees Mr. Kincade's desk up next to the audience, with the two rows of employee desks in roughly center stage and behind that, the Gallery with all the prospects in it. Finally, the huge window runs from behind the Gallery all the way to the right (from the audience's perspective) of stage ... right up to the entrance/exit door. The blustery weather would be a backdrop, then, to the audience, along with people going to and fro behind it, bent into the weather.

All that's important to visualize. At least I think so. And the problem always lies in the fact that a written play is designed to be read from the Actor's and the director's perspective, looking out to the audience: upstage is what the audience views as downstage; Left, to the actor/director is right to the audience. See the problem.

Please just keep hanging in there. It'll come to you.

Thanks for explaining it, Jay. Yes, the problem for me mostly was whether the positions were from the audience point of view, or the actors. Other than that, I had the general idea. I may have to draw myself a diagram. :) I will keep following, because I know it's going to get interesting.

Wow, Jay, you must have had this one already in the wings. Boy, this was fast. Well, I like it and look forward to enjoying this one as much as the last.

Update from hours ago!
Oh, I forgot to mention Liza singing New York. Loved it! And loved her!

Thanks, Amahra, for the six flaming stars and your always kind and lovely words. And about Lisa Minelli ... she's the best thing Judy Garland ever did! Again, thanks, amahra.

Ooops. I thought you were so wrong that I looked it up again on Google. Do you know that Google changed the spelling over just the few days since I downloaded New York, New York? Okay, okay, thanks for the alert! LOL.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if one day, and maybe soon, to look up and see your name in a sparkling glow on a Broadway marquee. Thanks for sharing.

Don't strain your eyes looking for anything of mine on a marquee. I would settle for a small community college production. I think I might give that a shot. I love that you're coming aboard for this one, Ric!

Wow. This must be fun to write. I have never watched Liza Minnelli singing and I like it. She was such a powerful singer. She was opposite of her mother Jady Garland.

Well done.

I heard Liza on the NEW YORK parts also. This is definitely a musical. I missed the part about the thirties, but that time frame makes more sense. It also seems to have elements of CHICAGO with that chorus. great job!

Yes, Chicago or New York would have done just as well. So good to have you reading this play as well, Carol. We'll see how well it does with the readers.
