I thought you gave a honest approach to your writing. You began with a question, ending your work with the answer. In between, you gave reasons for writing and my condolence for your son's death. I believe your essay has merit and wish you the best in the contest.

This essay, Just Because, sounds a lot like Dr. Ricky. If not, I apologize. I think that writing about your son has been life-saving for you indeed. I'm sure you get a mixed bag of reviews, but Fanstory seems to be a great outlet for strong feelings.

Strongly agree with your writing for your own enjoyment position. That is what I have always said, though I am a long time freelance Writer by trade.
Writing is also very cathargic, and helpful, in the worst times.
