One of my favorite songs and stories, my friend! I really enjoyed your message of hope even in the face of disaster. A timely message for these days!
on another note, I loved the flow of the poem. Rhyme spot on. Your poem blessed my soul.
Take care,
Rhonda

In whatever state we find ourselves in, all's well. "And underneath are the Everlasting Arms." Some wallow in their discontent and loss, carrying it like a black dog on their backs. Jesus gives us lessons and says "I am that I am." K xx

Sometimes you read stories of the tragedies some people go through and I wonder; where do they get their strength from. This is such a story. Your poem and notes makes me glad for what I have. Thanks for sharing this one Roy,

Compelling--agonizing to contemplate such loss--stunning imagery!
As to notes--heartrending--I cannot fathom how one goes on in faith--just hearing about such tragedies--even one death--is more than enough for me.

Roy, I never heard of Horatio G Spofford and what a tragedy he had.
Now there is man that kept his faith.
Now I love the lyrics of the song you wrote.

Well done on this fine poem Roy. You've given me food for thought. I'd like to think that I would shine in the darkness of loss, but I also know that with situations much less serious than losing all that I'd worked for, I have a tendency to come unglued. Not much of a testimony I'm afraid. Hopefully I'll improve as time goes on. I appreciate your verses here. It appears that you've struck a note for many.
Have a blessed day.

As I read your poem I was thinking of that hymn, so I was pleased to see you wrote of its source in your notes. I also thought of Job, who lost everything, but still loved and trusted his heavenly Father. May we emulate him.

Thanks for reminding me about Spofford's hymn. I remember the story but I didn't know his wife survived - I thought he lost everyone. And still he could write such a beautiful hymn. I remember after my mother-in-law passed away, (we hope she put her faith in Him) we were in church the next day and we sang this song. It's amazing how the words move us!

This was very inspirational, Roy. It showed that the words you wrote truly showed your faith and belief in God and Christ. Never once did you not believe. The picture showed your follow through on that faith. Very well done and greatly but sadly enjoyed. Blessings.
