What a great, fun poem this is, Brooke!!! I think this is my all time favourite that you have written (and they were all great).
Love it! I can see that children and adults would both love this poem. Chock full of very fun imagery.
Very hard to pick what my fave part is, as it is all so good. I guess ... "he swiped the sour from pickles" ... very creative and unique, I gotta say.
Just a delightful read from beginning to end, with excellent flow and strong rhyming.

You're welcome, Brooke. I really did love it! I forgot to mention what a chuckle I got when I saw the look on Sawyer's face. He really did look like a "Leander" ... lol.
:) Too funny!

This is absolutely the best I have ever read!
You caught that 'evil' look in Sawyer's eyes and
wrote the most magnificent story to boot!!
I loved every charming word and laughed a lot
while reading this.
Fabulous, my friend, does not give it enough
rewards for a great work.
Best of luck. I know you won already.

Now hold on a contton-pickin' minute! So the boy is a little ... mischeesiest? Ain't no call to call him Lee!
Do not thrust greatness on the lad 'til he truly earns it!
Though I have to admit that raised eyebrow brough a tear of pride to my tired old eye.
Brooke, this is a terrific new expression.
I love swiped sour from the pickles.
Terrific.
But what do you expect from a guy who's forced two
kinds of stripes at a swanky dinner party?
And don't get me started on the prison suit with ears.
Peace, Lee

I roared with laughter the instant I saw the photo. And the poem does this magnificent image full justice. I think they call this style "mock-heroic" (or am I confusing Leander with Lysander?)

Sawyer has that maniacal expression on his face, that its enough for his mommy to drop what's she's doing and offer up a piece of chocolate cake to appease the spell that has been cast her way.
Either that, or he's just wondering was his mother doesn't put his Cheerios in a bowl like other mothers do.
Now Brooke, I want you to answer me honestly, did Sawyer get that facial expression from you?
well done, Brooke

STeve, thank you so very much :-) Truth be told, Sawyer's Mommy had the best expressions ever. I used to laugh and laugh when she would make faces. Clearly he has inherited his expressiveness from her. :-) Brooke

The first lines of the poem correspond so well to the photograph and made me smile right away. Good rhyme used throughout the poem. Very nicely done!
Kind regards

Oh, I thought at the end, she was going to paddle him!
Sounds as if he could be a budding sociopath. Lots of unique "bad" things, the naughty boy does. Especially creative:
grabbed the hop away from frogs,
he swiped the sour from pickles,
pilfered spots from butterflies,
plucked the silver from the stars
Excellent entry.

Another terrific poem with a fantasy theme and a fantastic photograph of 'Leander'. Just the best set of nutty thefts for a child to read. Good stuff.

This boy is really bad--stealing honey from the bees and perfume from the flowers. Mom really got ticked when he stole the silver from the stars. Maybe the reason we have horses is because a kid like Leander stole the strips from a zebra.:}
Loved It! Excellent job.

Something of a pint-sized Grinch... this Leander! Completely opposite your little sweetness and light of a grandson! Outstanding photo accompanies this piece! What fun!
