Yikes - okay, does that mean I should stop reading you or I might end up being owned by you because I screamed once too often? (LOL)
As always, Dean, this is most entertaining! :0)

What an eerie horror poem of the monsters that lurks within our minds. The last image of the monster that wanders within the fair woman's head tells us all that this is not something we should dabble with. Well done, Dean.

I must say Dean, Horror stories being your passion, I absolutely you do it
so very exceptionally well and grimmer and eerier with each story, current
one penned quintessentially you! An errant gene or vibe you taunt and
tweak the senses into a malaise and wicked mastery much like Edgar
Allen Poe, perhaps your poetic inspiration? What ever or whichever,
you do have a most bizarre and fathomlessly multidimensional imagination!
Wherever it takes us, we are never the same when we return..'if' we return...:LOL
Thanks for sharing...

Whatever happened to the contest about getting into your mind. I keep pretty good track, but don't recall it being listed. Maybe Tom was too scared you'd get revenge! :-) An excellent description of what you are trying to do. Like the psychos on Criminal Minds, you get off on others' fear when you torture. Glad you didn't label this biographical. Stephen King proved that people like to experience fear vicariously.

Ah-ha! Caught ya'! Tryin' to give those prompt writers a little insight, huh? ;-)
. . .but I have read Stephen King, Dean Koonz and Robert McCammon's interviews and afterwords. . .and I know the secret! Shhhhh. . .don't tell anyone
but what it boils down to is -
-
-
-
-
I M A G I N A T I O N
~and a healthy respect for the singular phrase. . . .
What if? ~
(and a dose of. . .how can I remind them, that under the surface
there's ooohy-gooey scariness. (LOL)
From there, just pick what turns you on - - -and voila - - -a horror writer is unleashed :-)
Some write romance, some write spy novels, some write SciFi and some write nonfiction - BUT - all the successful ones are successful because they write about what interests them. . .what their mind has the most questions about.
( I suppose, in a way,. . .what they want to work out some answers about )
Nice site Dean :-)

'I Am A Horror Writer' is an extremely well-written and spine chilling piece. It was a pleasure to review a work of this calibre.

"with beady eyes and leathered wings." The rhythm and rhyme are spot on. I really enjoyed reading this poem. It is a nice departure from the usual trite imagery found in these works.

This is an interesting declaration of motivation. You are very good at the genre, so, what you say about doing what you love, is on show every time you write. What I like about your horror is that you can find a way to work it into so many genres, and still make it relevant. You also know when to use pure horror as opposed to ironic or comic humour. These verses sum up so well what you're on about. For me, writing horror is a real chore. For you, who owns it, horror always feels like a work that the writer enjoyed doing.
