Interesting, jaysquires. Everyone has a different opinion when it comes to reviewing. What I don't like is when a person has only good things to say, but then, gives the writing a low rating. I would rather they tell why they are giving it a low rating. To praise a writing and then, give it a low rating doesn't help at all. I enjoy reading 'How This Critter Crits'.

Well, hello again, Tweedypie. Good to hear from you. I hope I wasn't one of those people you were talking about. I do try. And, it's good that this series of chapters is getting a good following. Hope you stay aboard.

Hi jay! I agree that having a summary at the beginning would really help out a reader before they tackle critting any novel chapter. Sometimes, especially if lots of time has elapsed between posting, it sure would make it easier for my brain LOL Can't wait for Chapter 4, Jay! :>)

Thank you Indiana for your continued support of this series. Hang around. It'll get better with the micro-critting.

Hi, jay, very interesting and informative. I even like your ramblings and "asides," and they DO fit into this. Some of them lighten the piece and I like that too.

Yes, a good idea for a novelist to put a summary in. If I read a chapter and I get interested in the novel, I will go back to Chapter One and read the whole novel up to there---well, of course, not all at once. But a summary will help. Susan McLaren had summaries---they are more work for the writer---but they ensure that the reader is up-to-date on the story.

I found the part about your own novel, and that you took the advice of only one critic--at that, a reader not a writer--very commendable. Sometimes, it is that lone critic who gives valuable insight. Yes, and that the middle sags or that a reader loses some interest---that is important for a writer to know.

Altogether good writing here. I look forward to the next one.

Kay :)

Thank you for the very informative post. The first time well the only time really someone asked me to put information about previous chapters on the posts of fanstory I thought that when I send out to a publisher I don't put an explanation on each chapter.

But after reading this essay I am reconsidering. It will take me awhile, but I will go back over my posts and make that correction one chapter at a time.

Thank you so much.

Sharon
