I hope you know how special you are and what a hero you are to many of us. I think all of us take everything that is sacrificed for our freedoms for granted. We wouldn't be where we are today if we didn't have brave people going out there and fighting for us. I hope you were able to process everything you have been through somehow. That's another thing we often never think of. There is always the stuff that comes home and has to be dealt with.

I remember January 16, 1991, extremely well. I was at home with my three young sons, my fourth wasn't born yet. I was fielding calls from young military spouses who were scared because our husbands were over there. Because of my husband's rank I got the job of calming these young girls, and I do mean girls, down. My boys were watching the war unfold on TV. Once, I had a break from the phone, I turned off the TV. Good luck with the contest, it seems I read a similar story about a Viet Nam battle.

Thank you for writing your patriotic posts reminding us all of the greatest country in the world, and all the men and women who have served, even to the point of death, for her.
Have you ever thought of running for public office?

If this truly is a true story, thank you for your service. I enjoyed the visual and journey. I am a prior military (Active Army), so I understood everything as well.. lol. My only criticism would be that your change in tense makes it a little hard to follow at times (First person to second person, back to first-person, etc..); all in all wonderful piece of work; thank you for sharing.

Your story is exciting in many ways. I like the banter between John and the doctor and later that of the commandos on the helicopter. The scenes are all well-thought out in description. As I am from a military family, I can identify with the feelings of all involved.

Hello Bill,
Interesting piece of War and History Non-Fiction having captivating flow throughout from the beginning to the end with lovely flashes of thrills, romance, and humor which make the story just like a wholesome food.
"...No, John; yet, I must have lost my mind when I accepted the assignment to fly you boy scouts into battle."
In the face of Death to have a sense of humor is feasible only for like you commandos!
Superb!
[ 5 Stars + You yourself are the Sparkling Star. ]
BEST OF LUCK in the contest.

An "ASTONISHING REVIEW!" A Seven Star (plus) worthy--you betcha! "Did you know that God hesitated on sending you down to write books?" Well, He certainly did. Why? Because you were His most Beautiful Angel. However, He saw Cecile climbing the golden stairway then whispered, "It's one Beautiful Angel for another!" FYI, "You are HERO # 1 . . . and don't you forget it. Now, why does the good guy always have to die? Well, I asked God and He replied, "Because he was out to catch the world record fish and knew it would break you're heart if he did." Are you believing this? I didn't think you were. A "bestseller!" It's just a heartbeat away. So, go get it! Best wishes for an "Awesome Memorial Day," and God Bless. Respectfully with Love and Admiration, Anonymous.

I say this as a compliment, your story has the flavor
of Sgt. Nick Fury and his Howling Commando's. To this
day they are my all- time Marvel hero's.
Your true story salutes your brother Mark in his
unselfish giving of life. Your story is action packed
but that is what live combat is about.
Thank for serving and sharing your story.
Peace,
Richie b

I WISH I had six stars for this amazing story. First I must say thank you for your service. Thank you for taking the reader on this journey with you. I held my breath at some lines, cried at others. I don't even understand how someone could be so brave and I wish I could do more for those who served and those who continue to. My father served in WWII and my son in Operation Desert Storm. We are a family of patriots ever grateful to all who put their lives on the line.
