Ohhh dear! It's looking bad for The Good Guys!! It's bad enough that what happened to Gladys is coming to fruition...but now Mildred is going to be arrested, too?! Oy.
The usual great pacing, character descriptions, and excitement, Sandra. I continue to love the read. xo

That's exactly how I'm feeling when I write these reviews to YOU!!! "She's got to be rolling her eyes," I think, "from the monotony of my enthusiasm for her work." xo

I read this last night, then got distracted before I could review.
Poor Mildred, going to the pokey (jail). I bet she's thinking: she never signed up for this!
My goodness, the description of the scene of the police clashing with the women...yikes!!

Thank you so much for reading this part, country ranch writer. Veronica and Mildred weren't expecting this outcome. We'll see what happens next. :)) Sandra xx

Oh these ladies are in for it now! Well, good for them for continuing the fight and not backing down. It was high time for the women to show the men they were more than housemaids and broodmares.

You managed to crank up the tension so well in this chapter, I could almost hear the women cheering, and imagine the look on their faces when they turned the corner and saw the police. We knew Gladys was going to be arrested, but having Mildred arrested as well was a clever twist. Oh Lordy!
I can't wait for the next chapter.

Hello Sandra,
Considering how long the movement took before being successful, I think your book may turn out to be the modern version of War and Peace.
Of course, they couldn't "stop" Gladys from being arrested, because she already had been and it was thoroughly documented. But having Mildred arrested, that's something no one knows about. Unless tomorrow's Times headline reads, Undocumented Time Traveler arrested at Suffragette Protest. lol
Let's see Jowell deal with that!
I like the character of Amelia. Don't know if you plan to keep her, but she adds to the story.
I like your chapter which also shows how one's personality can change in unusual situations. Gladys is a different person when in the group.
Another fine well-written, chapter for the book, my friend.

War and Peace!! Now I'm thinking BIG TIME! LOL. Yes, Amelia has a role to play. I like her too, but I'm not saying anything else. :)) Mildred being arrested is a bit of a conundrum, one that will be talked about later, and I'm not saying anything more about that either!! :))
Thank you so much, Robert, for another fun, but excellent review. You do tend to unwittingly put ideas into my head. Thank you also for the lovely 6 stars. They do look pretty up there. Big hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

-An excellent chapter, Sandra, that
flows from beginning to end.
-I really like this quote by Amelia:
I see a wise, ancient soul in the depths
of your eyes. A rare but beautiful thing."
-You detail the scene in the hall
very well, as the suffragettes prepare
for their protest.
-You know there is more to come, as
the tension builds and builds.
-Gladys's demeanor changes, and all
Clare has to do is mention Emily to
get them more ready for action.
-You do a good job of ending with
the police already arriving at the scene,
and having Ver. wonder if they
had been tipped off, possibly from the inside.
-Hopefully, Gladys and Mildred will be okay,
but things don't look favorable at the moment.

I get so worked up when I research the lives of the suffragettes. Gladys is typical of many women of that time. Not allowed to do anything without the husbands/fathers say so. I'm just thankful I wasn't around then. I'm glad you liked what Amelia said to Mildred. They will get on well. :) Now to find out how Mildred fares in prison. First of all, Veronica has to find her. Thank you so very much for this lovely review, Pam, and for all the beautiful stars!! You are always so nice. Sending you a big hug, my dear friend. :)) Sandra xxx

I thought you weren't going to do much more with suffragettes. It sounds stressful, so you don't want to overdo that. Amelia is a good character. You are very welcome and deserving of the stars and comments, my friend.
-
I have spent the afternoon researching into what it was like in the prison for the suffragettes. I've decided not to go into it too much. It's not the sort of thing I like to write. My word, in the year my two have arrived at, the prisons were no longer tolerant towards the women. There status didn't come into it. They were all treated terribly.

I am glad you are not going to cover very much of conditions. Do you remember the historical novel by a former FS member? She used to put in a lot of detail that was very hard to read so sometimes I skipped chapters. I think your readers like the characters and what they do and think and how they relate to one another.
-
I agree with you. I have to keep my characters the way they are. I'm working on the next part now, so I'll be wanting to read your thoughts on it after I post it. Thanks, my friend, your fondness for my characters is so nice. Big hugs dear friend. :) xx

Thanks for sharing, Sandra. I will look forward to your chapter, and am glad you agree about your characters.

Oh, Linda, you are so funny! Weird you should mention cramp in my fingers, the rheumatism in my finger joints have been playing me up lately. I think it must be something to do with the dampness of the weather.
I don't know what Mildred will be like in prison, it wasn't very nice back in those days. Veronica is worried, she keeps asking me what she can do! How the heck would I know??? Silly woman! LOL. Thank you so much for your fun review, my dear friend. I always have a huge giggle when I read them. Love you too, my dear friend. Biggest hugs. Sandra xxxx

maybe you can ask Veronica what you can do about your rheumatism...I would think where she is it stays pretty damp...LOL...your so welcome my sweet friend...biggerest hugs you...love you.....xxxooo

I enjoyed this chapter, Sandra. I really like reading about history. The way you wove the present with the past with your time travel read smoothly. It is fun and interesting to see how the characters react. I am trying to figure out how the police were tipped off. That really added intrigue to your story. Thanks for sharing. Jan

Who tipped the police off is one thing Veronica will find difficult to discover. She is going to have hands full now that Mildred has been arrested. Thank you so much, Jan, for this lovely review. I'm really pleased you enjoyed it. :)) Sandra xx

When I read this vivid scene below, I couldn't help but think of the MeToo movement and the current rage of women in America after the Kava-Nope confirmation.
> When the police brought out their truncheons, this stirred the women up again. The anger was increasing, and it wouldn't take much for the situation to explode into something even more volatile. I tried to get to Mildred to tell her to pull Gladys back, but she was caught up in the throng, and both of them were being forced to the front.<
Isn'r it amazing how much and for how long women have been matching for their rights?
That your writing is brilliant and all that - I don't need to repeat each time around. I particularly love this book because you concentrate on women's rights.

When I've been researching for this book, I've often wondered what those women would think of how far we have/haven't progressed since then. Yes, we are still bashing away trying hard to get a fair dear. We shouldn't have to, it should be automatic that we get equal everything that the men get.
Thank you so very much for the six stars, my friend, and for you fabulous reviews. I appreciate both so much. But, even more, I appreciate you and your support. Big hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xx
