Very descriptive and well written. I did have one trouble spot which is: Sunshine's through windshield and I find I must rid myself
of my coat.
Should the sentence have stated: The sun shines through my (or the) windshield? Perhaps my thinking is not clear enough today. Keep up the wonderful writings and have a safe trip.

Thanks Irish Rain,
Take the 3:10 to Yuma... what a Western that one was. Larry's mother, son and 2 granddaughters live in Phoenix, so we don't make it to Yuma.. but I will wave just in case. LOL
So delighted you enjoyed this one.
:-) Carolyn

yes...wave real big from me...and throw some pistachios her way...she likes those! My niece is in college there in Flagstaff...my husband (Larry)...loved that movie, 3:10 to Yuma...loves westerns!
-
My husband Larry, (lol) and I both love Westerns. Do you read Jax Franklin.. Her novels are fantastic and she lives in AZ..
-
No, I never have...I mostly read Anne Tyler, Amy Tan, Jan Karon, Stephen King...LOVE Fannie Flagg! Assorted authors...but I don't read westerns...I just got to have indoor plumbing in my books! (smile)

Dear Carolyn,
I envy you. We lived in Case Grande, Az.(Southern not far from Phoenix and California.) for about 5 yrs, and loved every minute of it. Right now the weather is ideal warm, 70-85. Of course in the summer time we were looking at tempter from 90s t0 120...but hey! that was only for 3 months, than we had 9 months of ideal weather; besides, with A/C in home, car & business places, you are not in the hot too much.
What part of Az. going to? It gets a little cool, even a little snow in Northern Az. (Ex.Sholow)
Or maybe you know all this if you go there as winter birds.
Oh yea..LOL..your poem was very good and descriptive.
Your Good Friend, Jerry

Hi Jerry, Larry's mother lives in Phoenix as does a son and 2 granddaughters. We go 2 or 3 times a year. We have been to Sholow several times. I enjoy the trip in through Holbrook and Peyton then down to the valley. We are looking forward to some 'heat'... :-) I'm sure we will have snow in the mountains and maybe the plains of NM too. We have ice here in Missouri. So glad you enjoyed this post.
Stay warm,
your friend, Carolyn

You captured my attention from the start.
I love the artwork you choose to go with your poem.
It is a perfect match. Oh how I wish I was there now to enjoy all that western warmth. LOL

Carolyn; a great photograph and shot of the Arizona desert and may just look like any picture taken but I can see the reflection in your poem as it represents many of your concept that are written. "Like a well-balanced landscape spread an artist's(Word personified) easel", And this is exactly how you described beautifully the landscape of your poem. In imagery that was truly descriptive and exquisitely imperfectly expressed throughout your poem. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed the imagery that you presented as it made me visualize the beauty that you saw through your eyes that I see in my mind as I read your poem. You having masterful way of communicating your imagery to others. Thank you so much for sharing and posting and may the Lord be with you always Carolyn.

So you're on the way to warmth and the beauty of red sand. I followed behind as you left the frost and ice and drove through mountains and tall trees, ever watchful that the elk didn't decide to cross the line! Lovely descriptions and nice use of repetition. The beckoning west.

Thanks Shari,
I probably should have 'short storied' this one but already had it going before I thought of that. I hope to work on my novel more this year and hope to have your excellent input. So glad you liked this one. BTW I am coming to Fort Walton Beach end of February for a few days. At least we will be in the same State.

Hi Carolyn. I sure would like to be a stowaway. LOL. I love Arizona, although I have been there only once. Your free verse just made me want to go get my map out and pave a path. The scenery you describes makes my mind go there. What a lovely write. I hope you have a lovely trip. :>D Miss Sally

This is a very interesting poem that the author has created with this piece of work. I just watched the movie: "A Place Beyond The Pines." At the end the boy buys a motorbike and just says that he us heading out west. This reminds ne if that.
