Your poem is in good 5/7/5 syllable count for the contest
When I taught poetry in middle school and the boys were skeptical about writing a poem, I always told them that once they got a bit older, they could win many a girl with a poem LOL Sounds like you're living proof that I wasn't steering them wrong ;-)
