A beautifully written poem and I can relate to the message shared. This winter especially I have come to feel my age in the cold weather and am pleased to keep the outdoor activities in my memories and stay in my recliner close to the fire. Thanks for sharing

Great choice describing how our perspectives of the snow changes as we age. I couldn't agree more. Cute poem perfect for a lazy Sunday! Best wishes for the contest.

Oh, yes -- this resonates with me greatly -- my joints ache with the cold, yet I loved it as a child:
"...eager to bundle up
And fly with my friends down snowy hills."
Thank you for the wonderful memories, and too, for evoking such peaceful images in my goldn years...

Thank you for a lovely review. I appreciate its I've been working on a very short chapbook about aging, and this is one of my favorite poems in it.

You are very welcome, and congratulations on putting a chapbook together! Here's wishing you much success! :)

Your poem vividly describes not only the harshness of Winter, but how our attitude toward it changed as we grew older. As a kid, we had fun in the snow, but now we are content to watch it from inside. I definitely know where you are coming from, Verna.

This is a wonderful poem, a reflection on life and its many stages. seen through winter's snowflakes - stanza one brings snow storm to life for the reader- we can almost feel the wintry chills.

Thank you so much for your beautiful review. I appreciate it.

That's very beautiful Verna. I like your descriptions of winter, of the fun you had during winter as a young person, and your changing perspective now, when your bones, like the grass, are more brittle and fragile; you enjoy the beauty from inside rather than being exposed to the bitter elements. Best wishes for the contest.

Thank you, Wendy, for your kind review and for "getting" my poem.

That's so true! For us in the winter of our years, we need to care for our brittle bones. I loved your description of the carefree days of youth but I fear today's youth have burdens we never dreamed of. My favorite part was the opening six lines describing winter. Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you. It's grand to see you on here. I've missed you. I've been making a a very short chapbook about getting older, and this was one of my poems.

I'm so glad you're doing that. Years ago, I bought a book by one of my favorite devotional writers and it was called Growing Wisely Old or something like that. But it wasn't what I was hoping to find!

Some lovely descriptions here Verna and although this looks like a chilly scene, I felt the warmth within these words as friendships make all the difference to our life, a magical poem, love Dolly x x x

What a gloriously evocative verse, Verna! I'm usually not a great fan of winter but you make it sound charming and magical. I like the way your poem evolves with nostalgia and fearless enjoyment before the final stanza which assumes a more cautious and sedentary approach to the season. Whichever perspective you take, winter certainly possesses many redeeming qualities. Thank you for sharing your well-crafted and engaging coming of age verse. Good luck! Debbie

Dear Verna,
And there's my attitude in a nutshell. We don't have snow here but it's water sports for my clan. They take turns coming inside to bring me seashells or eat and play Scrabble. A fine entry for the coming of age contest and with style, my friend. Sending you my best today as always, and my very best wishes in the upcoming contest.

Thank you, sweet Sal, for your excellent review. I love Scrabble, too, and was disappointed when FB took it down. I don't want all the bells and whistles with it-just a game! Thanks for your wishes for the contest. xoxo Verna
