Not his own restaurant but caters and does wedding and all sorts of events. He got into the University of Missouri system and does all their events too.

Hello Barbara,
I love to read the stories that you tell about your earlier life and the kids. I was once again reminded how difficult it is to be the wife of a military man. Thanks again for the many sacrifices you made. What a delightful story. I'm sure you're very proud of Jeff. You're right, prayer is the only thing that will sustain us when our kids seem intent on going off the rails. I laughed when I saw how he still managed to get his booze, even at home. What a character. No wonder he's so successful. Well done gal, well done. Thanks for sharing this.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

Barbara,
What a delightful story! You did a great job, rambling or otherwise, to give us a look into the life and times of Jeff. My Jeff is named Joseph. He was and is a hot mess. I wish I could say things turned out as well with him and your Jeff. I'm sure he's given you laughs and worries beyond measure.
Thanks for sharing this story with us.
I know I'm mega behind on everyone's tales, but I also know you understand.
Hugs,
Rhonda

Ha!

This made me laugh:
His youngest, Jace, is just like his father. I often got the call, "Mamma, what am I going to do with Jace?"

Seems like it often works out like this. Or does every batch have that one rebel? Hmmm.

Fun tale!

I think most families have a rebel. LOL Thank you for the kind review.

Interesting chapter.

I would explain the acronym for readers who are unfamiliar

I was a DODDS certified teacher. I wasn't teaching at that time because Steven was an infant, and I'd stayed home with him.

I would write I stayed home not I'd stayed home. That may be a typo?

Best wishes:)

I will add what DODDS means. The other is correct because it would be I HAD stayed home to fit the verb tense. Thank you for the kind review.

What does DODDS mean? I was curious. I've taught in New York. It isn't b familiar to me. The verb tense didn't sound correct to my ear, but I see now.

I plan to read back, from the beginning, later today. :)

Department of Defense Dependent Schools. The military has school for the military dependents while stationed overseas with their families. They have a few in the states where the state's education systems aren't up to par.

    Oh I see. That's interesting.

Lordy, Barbara, you really had your hands full, and by yourself, too.
Well, apparently he grew up and made a terrific adult. I'm glad for you that he did! Neat story. Oh, meant to ask, did your husband help when he was home? None of my business, I know. Just wondered if you had any help at all.

To be honest not really. He was gone so often; he didn't really have a great relationship with the boys. He'd only be home a few weeks at a time. When he was, we did do family things. The only child he was home for was our last, he retired when Steven was in high school and was home then. Thank you for the kind review.

Your memories are fun and sad ones to read and to be glad out three boys, who were within four years of each other, were relatively easy to raise compared to your Jeff. Their mother, from our first family, was our Jeff.

This is a great story that illustrates that we have to keep praying, have to keep loving, the people in our family. You didn't give up on him, and in the end, he realized that he was someone precious to you. Maybe that's what sobered him up and made him into what he is today; a father himself. My mother never quit on me either. She prayed and prayed for me for 27 years until I finally got out of the drinking and pot. Hats off to the moms in the world. Including you. estory

I think most of us parents have a Geoff among our broods.
Mine is called Luke.
Doesn't stop us from loving them to bits and trying so hard to keep them on the right path.
Mine, now nearly 30 and dad of two beautiful children has at last (I think), decided growing up might be a reasonable idea :)

You did a really good job with this story. It flowed well from beginning to end. You also give us a good idea of your situation at the time. It sounds like Jeff was a few steps ahead while he was growing up. The environment and lack of communication from those in charge at the school didn't help either, as well as dealing with it on your own.You do a good job with the dialogue, as well.

Greg had a good answer to your question, as well as your response to Jeff's complaint that you couldn't withdraw him from school. One question, what is a DODD teacher? It was nice of your parents to offer help. It is amazing how some young people can find all kinds of ways to get around something. I'm sure it is rewarding now to see him thriving with his own business, and also have a lovely family, and will be making you a great grandmother, as well.

I like the comment you thought to yourself when Jeff asked you to take Jace for the summer. You end the story very well. Thanks for sharing it. Hope you had a very nice Thanksgiving, too.

Department of Defense Dependent teacher. They have them for the military families stationed overseas. They have a few in the states, where that state's education system isn't where it should be, so the military kids are punished because their dads are stationed there. Thank you for the kind review.
