It's another good chapter. Clyde seems to be flirting with the fact that he may get caught. He is stretching the envelope and taking chances that might come back to bite him. It's interesting though.

Thank you. Overconfidence is the killer of many a crafty crook.

A very good picture used by the author.
Well written chapter with loads of action. An easy read.
Excellent use of dialogue to keep the story moving and keep the reader right there on the road with Clyde.
Thank you for sharing.

Well that was bad luck, having his tag associated with a truck wreck not even caused by him. I wonder if it will make him think twice about his entire misguided mission. Probably not.

I didn't quite get the scene at the truckstop where he pays for the other guy's fuel, and then the guy's tears well up when he realizes who it was that paid for him. I don't understand the motivations and reactions involved. I know I can be thick, but could you explain what you were getting at here?

I'll blame the confusion on my brevital nature.
Clyde toyed with him on the highway. And then thought that he would try to make his point verbally, letting the driver know that getting cut off could be critical. Clyde was then merciful, figuring the best way to make the man think would be to generously pay for the fuel.
Do you think all that needs to be in the text?
reply by Jim Wile on 17-Oct-2024
Frankly, I do. It makes sense as you explain it, but I didn't get it from what was there.

It could just be me, and I know that my tendency is to overexplain, but I'm not offended when I read explanations as long as they are not for things that are exceedingly obvious. I didn't feel this was exceedingly obvious.

Wait, first Clyde gave the driver of the chartreuse truck all that grief with the slowing down and speeding off trick and then paid for his $382.41 burger lunch? What else was included in that lunch? Is this the start of Clyde's relationship with Thurmon?

Thank you for the review. Clyde paid for the trucker's fuel. I'll go back and make that more clear.

I don't suppose Clyde will finally accept that he has avenged his wife and will stop his harassment of truckers since he has just seen a trucker's attempt to avoid a wreck caused by a stupid car driver.

Thank you for your very kind review. No, I'm afraid one good act won't offset the thousand bad ones, or the death of his love. But there's only a couple more chapters, so he'll stop soon.

Yep, they always make a mistake sometime, and I'm guess that this is Clyde's big blunder. But it remains to be seen if I'm right or wrong, but at any rate it won't happen soon. :-) Thanks for sharing.

    Thank you.
Nothing he could do about it. He had to change his tire. A fake license could have spelled trouble.
I'm gonna go back and slip in several quirky things that were they all known by a single investigator would spell trouble for Clyde.

Let me know when you get it done. I'd like to reread it. :-)

I like what Clyde did for the Chartreuse Mack - shows he has a heart, and that he's trying to change hearts.

I would be worried too about that Trooper taking down his license number; showing an interest in something that has nothing to do with the wreck, or taking it down in case Clyde's changes his mind about the insurance claim?

See you soon, Wayne.

    Thank you.
Yes, two or three more coincidences, investigators putting maps and clues together... I'm going to go back and insert a few other tiny things (like toll road cameras). And an investigative map that indicates a last 'hit' from different directions just before return to Clyde's home state for a rest break.

He probably didn't think about that! but yes, they'll have him on a data-base now. It will be interesting to see what your next chapter brings. Very well written.

The elevator is still not going all the way to the top for Clyde. He is risking his life and his future. Revenge makes you suffer constantly always thinking bad thoughts. He is neglecting his family, he will not be joining his wife if this continues , and robbing her of him yet again. Karen

Correctomundo. Clyde is in a spiral, exacerbated by the conviction that he is right. This story came easy to me (written entirely in about 2 weeks) because I could see myself as Clyde.
We'll see how it works for him.
Thank you for your very supportive review.

Some stories are like pulling teeth. Some come out incredibly fast. I can't wait to see how he comes out.:-)

Well, Clyde is certainly active in this one. Has he made a mistake that will put him in the focus of the police? Sorry I have only five to offer. Maybe at the next truck stop I can pay ahead for you.
