Hello Barbara!

I have a list of all the wonderful members who have made me feel so welcome in my short time here. You have been on this list for awhile, and I have finally gotten to your name. I thank you so much for your reviews and well wishes in my profile.

I entered your port and saw that your current projects are chapters, works in progress. I would never start an author's book in medias res like that, so I dug a little deeper. I came to rest on this prologue or introduction as a great place to start to get to know you better.

I have to say after reading this that I made the right choice. Single mother of four boys (I was one; I know how we are), victim of spousal abuse, survivor or breast cancer, 1st Grade teacher, world traveller, published author, enduring the loss of a child ... my dear, you life has been anything but boring. I have not jumped ahead and read any further. I assume there are the short stories in here that are promised in this prologue. If it's okay with you, this is where I will come to rest when I fly into your portfolio, the branch where I will perch. If, however, you would rather me visit another branch of your tree, feel free to let me know.

I know we writers want more than anything to have readers--and that is what's so great about FanStory. I'm not sure how often I will visit, but I will come by when I can. I have a personal dislike for the financial system that forces us to banish our work to oblivion if we cannot afford to promote it. I do understand the rationale, though, and I realize that the entire concept of the site rests on just that. I just find it to be a shame that so much of our work gets a spotlight for a few days, and then drifts down into the shadowy deep like so many scattered leaflets. Because of this, I have developed a personal policy that I will not spend all my time reviewing just the lucrative items, but come and visit my friends as often as I can to collect those very leaflets that time has forgotten, one at a time.

I must go now, but thanks again for your reviews! I will see you again soon.

Patrick

Life is just life, we do the best we can and hopefully learn if we have any sense. Nag nag nag don't forget to write me a card please. You can say:

Karen whined as only she can
I wanted to toss her right out of the van
she said please please
on her rickety knees
and, after all I am a fan

I am sure yours will be better! I still owe you two.Karen

A month traveling has kept me so far behind that I've not been able to read everyone and everything they post, but I have tried to drop in and catch what I could. Looking forward to tuning in for your short stories. Thanks for sharing.

Sounds like a good idea, Barb. I'll be looking forward to the adventure. I have toyed around about writing about myself, but have never come up with the courage.

Barbara,
You' write about living a life of many "downs," yet you've overcome them.
I think a novel of all the hardships youve endured mentioned (especially surviving the grueling regimen of chemo) would be an excellent read.
Good luck, Barbara.
Cindy
Good luck, Barbara, with this endeavor.

Hello Barbara,
I wish I had a six for this. It's never easy to share all the nitty-gritty details of our lives. Whenever we put something on paper for the whole world to see, we expose ourselves and our vulnerability to those who may not understand or care or who just like to criticize because it somehow makes them feel better. Personally, I would love to read your story. I've never found a person who wasn't interesting to at least some degree.
I get the feeling that you are a strong woman, so I assume you'll be able to handle any negative reviews you could possibly get, though from what I've read so far, I doubt there will be any. Go for it gal. I'm looking forward to what you've got to share.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

Wow, so many interesting aspects of your life that you could--should--definitely write about. Something in any of them could positively impact a reader's life. Sorry to hear that you were a battered spouse. Hope that episode is far behind you and your current partner is loving/supportive. We're eagerly waiting for your first install...

My present husband and I have been married almost 40 years. I learned a lot as I got older. I made him promise before I married him that if he ever raised his hand to me, I was gone.

Sounds like you could write a novel or two with all the material you have mentioned. Also, I believe you are far from boring and that you have an audience waiting to read your work.

Looking forward to your first story.

Blessings
Janet

I think It's good to venture into new territory. You mention all the possibilities for topics to write about. You could probably weave them all in. You could use a chronological approach if you do. Your time as an Army wife would make another interesting book. I would be eager to know how you managed to find time to write while you were still teaching. Best of luck with your writing, whichever approach you decide to take. judi

You're welcome. I see so many different approaches you could take. To me focusing on your life as an Army wife and mother would guarantee interest. judi

They will be the main topics. I am considering doing a short story just introducing my family. Not sure how it would go over, but when I'm writing about a child's escapades, it would take a while introducing him. It may work better doing it all at once. What do you think?
reply by judiverse on 06-Jul-2024
You could make that the introduction to the book. You might introduce your family that way. You could just work them into your account if you do a chronological presentation. judi

Hello, Barbara,

500 words is perfect for me. LoL. But with your stories, and a few fanstory writers, is easy to follow. Your imagistic writing and detailed and interesting stories are easy to read. There are some writers write books that are hard to follow... they are boring.

I am interested in all the topics you mentioned.

I was married to an airforce Sargent who was ready to retire so I didn't get the full experience. It's almost like a cult but in a good way.

Good luck!
