Rachelle,
I'm not sugarcoating in the slightest.
This is the most exquisite and masterful piece of writing I have ever read in my lifetime.
You... you made me feel something I haven't felt in years. The estranged relationship between a father and his daughter, reconciled by a heartfelt letter. A father, who once resisted against his daughter's dream, who truly realizes how profound of a mistake he has made. A daughter, who finally got the approval of her father in one last, bittersweet moment.
And that last line... sheer brilliance. You truly fleshed out and stayed consistent with the father's character you established earlier in the story.
Rachelle, you are unquestionably an extraordinary, peerless writer.
Warmly,

Rachelle, I heard about this story not too long ago and decided better late than never, so I came to read it tonight. I am so delighted that I did. However, I have a poem I was going to post tomorrow and after reading this, it feels like something I should work on for a while. All of a sudden, it didn't seem so ready after all.
This is tremendously written and is definitely worthy of the praise it has received.
Like Tessa, I am afraid of flooding my keyboard with tears, because it is so heartfelt. After I finished reading, I dried myself off and felt refreshed like a new Spring day after a very long cold Winter. I found myself so over the top, thrilled for Tessa, that I realized I felt like it was me who had just read this from my father.
It takes an incredible writer to make the reader feel that kind of power, to jump inside and be the main character of the story. But that is how it pulls at the heart strings.
Actually I didn't want it to end, and that is another sign of genius writing.
Thank you for this beautiful story, your amazing way of telling it and so articulate with your lovely language skills. It maybe the best I have read since I have been on here. I'm so happy that I didn't forget to check it out. This deserves to be published. So the only other thing I can add is to say, Encore! And next time, I won't need to hear about it through the grapevine!

This is one of the most heartfelt reviews of all time. Thank you for validating me as a writer, and I appreciate how specific you were about what "landed" for you. Thank you.
You certainly do have a way with words, yourself. I feel great after having read this oh-so thoughtful review. Xo

A story threaded with beautiful fibres of consciousness, doubt, regret, remorse, but most of all: love.
-Heart in this story
-Lovely expressions and wordology from a master wordologist
-Great balance and dollops of feistiness
-How valuable the gifts we receive when we seem to be not looking, story seems to say: the gift of being a daughter to a father, and of being father to a daughter....with all it entails. All the best, and best results wishes.

How did I miss this?! I've been spending far too much time in lands of poetry and missing the wonders of narrative! What a gem. I loved the plot which had me engaged the entire way through wondering what the father had written next. What a letter to have received after believing a lie about your writing and its worth for so long. Splendid word choices and descriptions. I felt as though I were in Tessa's shoes, imagining her tumult of emotions as she read that letter. Very well written!.

I read this through twice. Both times I admired the writing style and the artful descriptions of the emotional scene. Very beautifully done my friend. Congratulations on being number one for November. Your writing is perfection.

Interesting story, Rachelle, somewhat reminiscent in theme of Johnny Cash's "A Boy Named Sue":
So I give you that name and I said goodbye.
I knew you had to get tough or die,
and it's that name that helped to make you strong.
Perhaps some of those parents who use tough love as the first option might want to see the benefits of kind words and encouragement.
Your story is (not surprisingly) well written, and I like the back-and-forth between the note and Tessa's reaction. Her reactions and emotions are believable for the situation, and help the reader to get inside her mind and to experience these feelings with her.
Good use of character-related detail, such as the successful father choosing nothing less than the Moleskin journal to encourage Tessa's writing.

This is beautifully written. The characters are so well-defined that the car see and hear them feel and speak the words you have written. Excellent story and a 10 star effort --- but I have only 6. lol. ann

Rachelle,
I did not review the actual story you wrote because I was confused. It kept me from enjoying the story. The problem is one of timing and setting. Did your father die eight days ago? If not, when did this happen?
This is the line that makes it all unclear... "I force myself back to the moment."
What is the book that went unpublished? Will it be published? Was it already published? I am lost.

This is fiction. Yes, Tessa's father died eight days earlier. Anything in italics is her father's letter to her.

Ah! Okay.
