overheard at Starbucks

<< Thread Modifed March 10 at 11:25AM >>

To my right, sitting in the corner window, is a white lady in green camo tights, a green sweatshirt, and flamingly bright orange hair. She looks like an overstuffed leprechaun. She is talking on the phone to a man named Fred who is applying for a job to be an instructor for some sort of course, for which she is a gatekeeper.

"So I want you to go back and outline any DEI work that you've been doing in your personal life and professional life to show that you are

A) knowledgeable and
B) committed to the principles of equity and inclusion.

You can have women's work. Any sort of Girl Scouts work. Anything with sustainability. You put down one beach cleanup, that's not going to demonstrate the consistency.

So if you can just go back and spell it out on your resume..."

RE: overheard at Starbucks

That's sad, but if the guy is applying to work with her or her organization, then he likely believes in the same DEI stuff. If it is a private thing, no public funds, and they're not breaking any laws, then that's on them.

Yeah, agreed. It's just one more example to me of how people tend to value the type of diversity which they already possess. It's actually not diversity, but groupthink.

RE: overheard at Starbucks
Oh, it's worse than groupthink. Equity requires discrimination. It can't function without it. That means it is direct opposition to Equality. And our (US) constitution, Equal rights Act, and Labor laws are all based on Equality, treating people equally regardless of race, sex, or religion. That is not what DEI teaches or promotes.

Sadly, some people only think discrimination and racism, or sexism only goes in one direction, from the majority to the minority.
