Now, Chester was once a climb-tack,
who tangled with my bric-a-brac.
Of lives, he had nine,
but these days, the swine
is pushing up daisies out back.

Author Notes
Today's word: climb-tack (n.) a cat that likes to walk on shelves.
I kid you not - that's the exact meaning, according to my book.
Apologies to cat-lovers, it's just a limerick.
My much-treasured Christmas present for 2017 is a book by Paul Anthony Jones: "The cabinet of linguistic curiosities". Each page contains a descriptive story about some obscure or archaic word. It occurred to me it would be a fun exercise to try and write, each day, a poem featuring the "word of the day" from the book.
Thanks for reading.
