once had a lover named Winter
new fallen snow was as white as she
when angry, was cold and frozen
made snowmen to poke fun at me
her ire intense, unforgiving
made every creature so cold
layer head to toe for survival
chill penetrating and bold
no special comfort for homeless
no apology for barren trees
she no longer brightened my life
suggested gloom was meant to be
she was a deep dark entity
but I had to have her near me
would send her packing in April
amuse myself with Spring you see
