She's lived her life for his good
Surviving any way she could.
Her happiness depends on the love of him
And her future prospects grow so dim.
When he's not home she sits and cries
Wanting to, but not believing his lies.
She pours herself a glass of wine
To make herself believe all is fine.
She dreams of a time when he was kind
Or was his kindness all in her mind?
Losing track of things that once mattered
Reality's fabric becomes torn and tattered.
This man's love is a poisonous thing
Yet she feels the need to wear his ring.
He comes home, drunk and mad
Creates a scene ugly and bad.
He's a danger to both life and limb
Her life depends on an abuser's whim.
As a family tries to set things right
She clings to her man with all her might.
