I Called Her Mom by fastdigits 100 Word Story writing prompt entry |
Hair once black, now a soft silver-gray, framing her face where you could see her beauty, like a sunset as the last flames of gold caress the coming of night.
This moment surreal, as if an arrow had pierced my heart, I looked lovingly at her laying peacefully in her final bed of wood, surrounded by pink flowers lovingly placed there for her journey. She never spoke of the desperate times she faced in Poland, only jokingly thinking of coming to America, meet her white knight, a fantasy of a young girl who dreamed impossible dreams, which did come true. In all the years of hard work building her new life, never a single whining word, only tales of gratitude whispered in loving tones. Her name was Helen, and I called her Mom.
