A New Year beckons:
Words not yet spoken
Paths not yet taken
Hopes not yet dreamed
Silently encroaching,
Pulsating at the edge of memory:
Words - betrayed
Paths - encumbered
Hopes - dashed
Fragments of moments lost
By conversations stilled
Malignantly weave
Their tapestry of remembrance:
Words - angrily dismissed
Paths - impetuously closed
Hopes - deliberately destroyed
As the New Year breaks
Upon a pristine landscape of
Sparkling, newly fallen silent snow,
The past surreptitiously makes
Its presence known:
Taunting
Threatening
Terrorizing
On this glistening first dawn
Of potentialities and new beginnings,
Only a fool would stay
Manacled to the past
Only a fool would fear
What this day brings
Only a fool would miss
This opportunity to renew
A New Year beckons:
Words not yet spoken
Paths not yet taken
Hopes not yet dreamed
I bid the New Year,
"Welcome,"
And on bended knees,
I most reverently pray
To God Almighty
That the anticipated days ahead
Will not find me a
Fool. . . once again. . .
