Red Fox by Cecilia A Heiskary

Little red fox where'd you go?
Conservationists really don't know
Maybe it's inbreeding and low population size
Habitat loss and fragmentation is on the rise

Coyotes are making you compete
It's all responsible for your defeat
All you can do is keep trudging along
Fight the obstacles and it will make you strong

We will help the best we can
All we need is a new plan

Author Notes
The Sierra Nevada red fox lives in the mountain range at 5,000-7,000 ft. They are a subspecies of the red fox.

There is thought to be anywhere from 18-39 foxes left in the wild. They are monogamous for life.

Things affecting them are habitat loss, fragmentation from logging and cattle grazing, reduced genetic diversity, and recreational disturbances, such as ATV's.

They are an opportunist hunter living on rabbits and other rodents.

They are considered to be on the Critically Endangered list.
