Writing Prompt
A cinquain is written using a pattern. "Cinq" [pronounced SINK] is French for the number 5. This type of poem only has five lines. Each line follows a specific pattern. More information.

Author Notes
The Ayrshire poet and lyricist died in 1796 at 37, but he is still regarded as the most prominent poet to have written in the Scots dialect.
His best-known poems include To a Mouse, Address to a Haggis, Tam O'Shanter, A Red, Red Rose, and The Selkirk Grace.
