When I was a child, the world varied and vast
Being a cowboy and baseball dreams were my ambitions
Then came high school, a steady girl and future plans
College, switching majors to education, my chosen profession
Spent years as an educator progressing from teacher,
Principal, superintendent, on retirement college professor
Married, the joy of children, divorced and married again
Mistakes and regrets and some successful happiness
My largest mistake was thinking only of myself
I look in the mirror, see lines etched with lament
I know in my heart some decisions were selfish
The wounding of others has left soulful scars
But life has not been all sad. I love and have children
My life lessons be worthy of trust, love and loyalty
Living these virtues makes one a creditable person
I’m aware that in time, my life journey will end
For I now stand enduring my golden age glow
But be advised that I have not given up
I am still a person who is alive and I intend
To live my life to the fullest that I am able
