The Enigma of a Childhood Friend by Seth Underwood True Story Contest contest entry |
This is a true story from one who is autistic. At the time it occurred, I didn’t know I was autistic, although the family pediatrician suspected something was odd about me. So, there was a girl with hair that went down her back. We hung out together at her house. She taught me how to knit and process b/w photos. She had cable tv, and we watched MTV together. But one day she told me to go away and not come back. I never knew why, even forty years later when I found out where she was, she was still mad at me even so late in time. I have no clue because I’m autistic and may have missed something in the relationship. It still bothers me despite being married for twenty plus years with children.
