As evening winds down to the final hours and minutes,
the enormous window frames capture the last sunset,
a reel of thoughts flash through my mind
like a vintage film clip flickering on the screen.
Everything comes into sharp focus;
the clock ticking loudly,
rays illuminating dancing dust particles,
the smell of the musky furniture,
smooth keys of the grand piano.
In the back of my mind, the silence is overwhelming—
is this the beginning of the end?
Before I depart from this earth, I must tell you about
the love of my life—a wild man—who has
irrevocably altered my existence.
A gruff man with the gentlest touch,
rich in emotion but brash with his words,
his heart is tame, though bold and adventurous,
he has a lot to say, yet he hears my dreams.
He toils in the garden with his green thumbs
bringing saplings back to life.
Alas, he cannot save mine.
Thank you, dear lover.
Goodbye, my wild man.
