Aging friends and coping
Two Canes and a Walker by jackie f
True Story Contest contest entry

I am a writer and my two friends are an artist and a golfer.  We are widowed and we live on our own.  My friend the  artist, age 82 has arthritis and still paints, now  uses a cane. I am the writer age 87, fell and  broke  my elbow, still writes, now uses a walker.  My friend the golfer,  age 89  has neuropathy and still golfs, now uses a cane.  We no longer drive.  Uber has become our form of transportation and have no need  to burden our adult children. We have  come to terms with the aging process, not an easy task for our mind to accept, especially with so many changes and restrictions.  We are learning not to dwell on our limitations but to ‘soldier on’ and to consider aging as a small price to pay for living on borrowed time.
