Sitting in my window seat
A good book in my hand,
I can travel anywhere,
a far, exotic land.
Today, I sailed on pirates’ ship,
those outlaws of the sea.
I climbed the sheets in heavy wind
to set the mainsail free.
Last week, I rode with cowboys
and worked with them to drive
the cattle to the market
and wore a forty-five.
One day, I’ll dance with fairies,
an elf, a nymph, or sprite.
We’ll twirl to music of the flute,
until the morning light.
I don’t know where I may go next -
depends on what I read.
A new adventure waits for me.
A book is all I need.
