I had a wonderful childhood and would return in a heartbeat.

The Best Years Of Our Lives

by Therese Caron

We played outside from dawn till dusk
Dragged inside for baths against our will
These memories are now from years ago
But I remember them clearly still.

We roller skated and rode our bikes
Played hide and seek all over the street
We tried to dig a hole to China
Excited about the people we'd meet.

Our dolls had very elaborate lives
They traveled, wore ball gowns, and fell in love
Our favorite pastime was climbing trees
Looking down on our world from above.

Neither toys nor games required a plug
The energy came from our heads
We put on plays for the neighborhood
Slept exhausted at night in our beds.

Most people say they loved being kids
But would not go back if they could
As for me, there'd be no hesitation
I'd go back in a flash - yes I would!

Childhood writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a rhyming poem about your childhood. It can be good or bad, happy or sad.
No more than 20 lines.
No free verse.

I grew up in a family of seven girls and wonderful parents. We lived on a cul-de-sac full of children. We played from morning till night and although we no longer live in New Jersey, we are still in touch with some of the people from that street. We left there 52 years ago. Some friends are definitely worth keeping.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
