Would You Steal

by michaelcahill

LYRICS AND MUSIC PERFORMED BY MIKEY

Are you warm tonight
I'd really like to know
If your kids were starving
would you steal

In starving desperation
Mr. Martin rode his fear
and seeing no one there
he tucked a loaf of bargain brand
fast inside his coat
a flash of light, a thundering
he fell like some comedian
practicing a joke

In yonder distant palace
the King was holding court
the jester spoke of equity
secure inside the fort

the King was filled with laughter
as vaudevillian play
filled the sitting parlor
while night escaped from day

"My kingdom is a garden"
the King did proudly shout,
"and soon the buds will blossum
I'm positive, no doubt".

Can you see beyond
the kingdom you have built
can you hear beyond
the echo of your voice
What makes you think
the air is just for you.

Are you warm tonight
I'd really like to know
are you sleepin' tight
I'd really like to know
If your kids were starving
would you steal

Dinner would be late tonight
in the Martin home
but there'd be one less mouth to feed
and one less thief to roam

Terrible recording, but I need to keep it for reference if I ever get a chance to make a real recording. :))
