What Will It Take

Shall an education be pulled off the table?
When your mind is keen to learn
even though that is not perhaps
the lady-like thing to do back then
before the world became a bit more wise
Is that what it takes to bring you down?

Could we make life a struggle then?
Make it hard to make ends meet?
Is that all too ordinary?
Not tough enough for you?
That is not enough to bring you down?

A monster then
to tell you that you are nothing
to beat you if you try to speak
maybe a year of that
is that what it takes to take you down?

maybe that is not enough
you're young, you think you're tough

Then there will be no end in sight
day after day
week after week
year after year after year
you will never heal from day to day
Is that what it will take?

I see you standing there smiling
That darling hat at just the right angle
And I ask you
What will it take to make you break?

But, you tell us everyday
that goes by
there is no force
that makes me cry
"God loves you, and so do I".
