A chapter in the book Songs

A Christmas Song

by michaelcahill

Once again winter's snow is bold,
Those ancient stories will unfold
Tall Christmas tree, quick splash of light
bright ribbons dancing in crisp night

The chimney swept clean waiting for
swift visit silent stuff of lore
Eyes are closed pretending sleep
listening for loose floorboards creak

An entrance graceful without noise
wrapped packages of heartfelt joys
The sun shines bright through every bough
innocent souls rejoicing now

My old green jacket full of wear
Empty pockets good mem'ries there
No thoughts of what I can't provide
Pure love of Jesus dwells inside

All through the house bright sounds of cheer
while every heart is near and dear
Christmas! Christmas! Our day is here
no one is poor for Christ is near
