I sit at my desk with my pen in my hand
wondering what I can write today
do I have a plan

Shall I write about moonlight and sunshine
Jesus and His love
How about whirly gigs and snow cones
Or my God up above


Maybe sailboats and sand dunes
or mountaintops so high
Or perhaps a place prepared for me
in that 'sweet by and by'

Will it be of dandelions and buttercups
baby smiles or annoying 'hiccups'
Children and aged all come into play
as I sit here and ponder, what will I write today

Abuse and addiction or severe human plight
Terror, world wars,
government shut downs
giving up without a fight

Or will I write of love for self
and conceitedly think of only me
or will I share, will I care
and compassionate strive to be


What will my pen proclaim today
as to the tablet it's pressed down
whatever it be, reflections of me
most assuredly will be found

So bless my writing efforts Lord
and guide my pen, I pray
To do my best, and leave the rest
to be composed another day
