coals having served their purpose are left to burn the thrill of a matchstrike the bold flames foreshadow a total committment to ashes now forgotten is it kindness to pour a pail of cold water over the embers slowly burning alone ending the lonely vigil when burning out was all that was left i stand alone at the waters edge but i don't enter for some reason i smile as i trace your name in the sand embers of Lenore |
