Free verse love poem
You, the Moon
I want you
when the sun breaks,
when I dream, and when
I wake
You, the ice-cold fix
when I am parched—
the silver pulse, upon
my tongue.
I want you
when I wander, pacing
lengths of endless
longing, when
I breathe—if only
just to take you
in.
You, the silent stretch
that fills my chest—
the whisper, warm
against your neck.
I want you
when I'm turning, restless,
churning like the sea
and you, the moon—you are
the pull that bends me
under, you're the sky
I glow beneath.
And maybe I
don't need you, as I
need
the air and water—I
suppose
my hollow heart
would beat,
without you, I’d
survive
each vacant, cold
forsaken night—
Just a still
and yearning sea,
always reaching
for the moon.
