Reflection on Auschwitz's liberation and remembrance.

Eighty Years Since Liberation

Eighty years since the shadows fled,
The gates swung wide, tears were shed.
But in our hearts, their stories stay,
We must remember, and not betray

The silence screams where humans fell
A haunting echo, a deathly bell
Each name, a world that once was whole,
Now etched in  time, a sacred scroll.

The ashes rose, the winds did weep,
For promises the world couldn't keep.
But from the dark, a strength was born,
A vow to  mend what hate had torn.

So let us stand where silence cries,
And see the truth  through history's eyes.
For in remembrance, we find the way,
To hopefully build a brighter, kinder day.

My quatrain poem "Eighty Years Since the Shadows Fled" reflects on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, emphasising the importance of remembering the past. Hopefully, it captures the deep emotional weight of the event, acknowledging the loss of lives and the haunting echoes of their stories. I also hope that my poem speaks to the promise of resilience and strength that emerged from tragedy, urging all Fanstory members to honour those who suffered by committing to a future built on compassion and understanding. Through remembrance, it calls for a collective responsibility to ensure such horrors are never repeated, promoting a brighter and kinder world.
I can only hope, sadly the world is still full of horror.
