Life is Like a Box of Termites

by Tom Horonzy

I've given thought
this might be true
for once we're born,

(if we consider
 being blocks of wood,)

with each passing day
we start to decay
until at the end
what was a tree
ends up becoming
a parcel of dust.

A Ghoulish Thought writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
You awake from a listless night's sleep, only to have a ghoulish thought creep from your mind.

This is the way a demented mind may begin its day. I ought to know.

The photographs are both from pexels.com
The tree credit belongs to Johannes Plenio - 1146706jpg
The person to the right is fading from life to be part of a dust storm.

I woke up beginning to speak... the words of Gump but the last word came out... termites. I told the wife, I think there's a story there. And this is as Paul Harvey would have said... The rest of the story."
