a sonnet describing the emotional dishonesty of men

broken man

by Nellys1983

“Hey there, young boy, it's not okay to cry!”

Is what I was told from an early age.

‘Real men’ live an emotional lie,

Their souls trapped in this emotionless cage.

Behind stern eyes, a soul yearns to be free.

Behind stern eyes a spirit lives in pain.

The smile’s a song bird singing happily,

The soul’s a flower drowning in the rain.

Sorrowful screams wake my soul from its sleep,

As a real man starts to take shape.

an emotional spark that help my tears escape,

My spirit alive my eyes gently weep.

Freeing my soul after so many years,

through bated breath I begin to  shed tears.
