A celebration of our colorful world

Color Theory for Children

by Trina Layne

Before the colors that we like,

there were only black and white.

And just as God made me and you,

He made glowing colors too.

First on scene were primary hues.

Name them true - red, yellow, blue.

Next came secondary colors

by way of mingling others -

orange, purple, and also green,

then all the hints in between.

God made colors to paint seasons.

They have meanings and reasons.

God made colors to appease souls.

Cool/blue, mell/yell, red is BOLD.

Tints and tones make for ticklish words

-elephant’s breath, green goose turd,

vermillion, chartreuse, phlox, puce

and like burnt-butter, there's puke.

Some lighter looks, earth casts, dark shades,

but all’s beauty, even gray.
