A Rondeau Poem

The Snowy Owl

He guards the night with eyes aglow
His piercing stares cut through the snow
You'll find him there when darkness falls
He seeks his perch on forest walls
In silence he performs his show

You can't mistake him for a crow
His catlike stare he won't let go
Beware his charm as he enthralls
He guards the night

I find my wand'ring thoughts do flow
And my imaginations grow
The myst'ry of this bird still calls
This sentry stands while moonlight crawls
And in my heart I'll always know
He guards the night

Rondeau Poetry writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
A rondeau poem is required for this contest. It is a fixed form of poetry. It is often used in light or witty poems. It often has fifteen octo - or decasyllabic lines with three stanzas. It usually only has two rhymes used in the poem. A word or words from the first part of the first line are used as a refrain ending the second and third stanzas. The rhyme scheme is aabba aabR aabbaR. See an example and instructions here.
