Political reflections from an outsider's perspective

And The Trumpet Shall Sound

by Claire Tennant

Let me be quite clear
the president-elect is not the Messiah
politics across the world stirs fear
he won't get any higher
personally, I respect him
though with him I would not argue
chance of a meeting is slim
travel abroad, I'm not about to

The thing about a leader is
purpose and strength
wishy-washy statements are fizz
we have heard them at length
compared to the leaders in Oz
Trump is a one-off
our current PM thinks he is Santa Claus
a toad and show off

No I'd rather have Mr Trump in my camp
generous and strong
he has big ideas
though some are wrong
not one of us is perfect
least of all me
my hero is my Lord, as you suspected
my sins are on His wounds and tree
