Don’t tout it as a slip of the tongue

Truth is not spilled

by accident

The secret that you could not hold

was not your tale to tell

A cruel dress-down rehearsal

left venom on your tongue

Your final act is

my opening night

Unscripted,

I transcend my truth

Unburdened from the secret

Unburdened from the teller

Unredeemed

for the disclosure

you slither off

in the slime of cruelty

to the emptiness

that is your truth

Secrets are tricky. I've heard it said that we are only as sick as our secrets. The act of setting the truth free is the beginning of recovery. Betraying a confidence is a violation of boundaries, and a double hit on the spirit - a loss of one's right to choose what others know, a loss of trust that impairs the ability to trust again.
