Holding On

by Claire Tennant

Lord, You have said that You would repay
the years the locusts have taken away
yet for years the locusts have remained
I and those I love feel strained
this control by the enemy
who ignores our "Get Thee gone" plea
tantalises and taunts in a way
it is sometimes difficult to pray

I am asking Lord for my child
a little naughty, a trifle wild
that the enemy's malevolent schemes
would not stifle his inner dreams
though my heart aches I now feel strong
for it is You to whom we belong
Your presence fills this tiny room
erasing my concern and gloom
You promise a better way
rewarding our faith day by day
opening doors as only You can
destruction and failure were never Your plan

Nighttime Prayer writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a rhymed poem that somehow encompasses your nightly prayer routine.

JOEL 2 25-27: What does it mean I will restore the years the locusts have eaten?
So the meaning of the restoration of the years must be the restoration of those fruits and of those harvests which the locusts consumed. You cannot have back your time. But there is a strange and wonderful way in which God can give back to you the wasted blessings, the unripened fruits of years over which you mourned.
