When a Friend Calls

by RodG

10 Line Poem Contest Winner

He called me early that summer morn.
Could I meet him at the village park?
Though I'd not dressed or shaven yet,
he sounded shaken and forlorn.
I grabbed my cap, my stout wooden cane,
aware I'd be walking in the dark.
Yes, I'd watch my step but wouldn't let
fear of falling keep me from
meeting with my sad, forsaken chum
and with him I'd remain.
