White Roses

by Regina Elliott

The author has placed a warning on this post for violence.
Our nation's collective songs of sorrow
midst the ebony shades of grief.
White roses of hope and purity,
gifted from God for our mournful
conscience.

We pray for a peace that eludes in
roiling turbulence of skies fiery,
split open raining missiles in the
hatred of humanity,
of youth fallen before their dreams
are lived out,
of infants born without their fathers.
White roses softly glowing in sunlight,
as we kiss the widows' cheeks. ~
