The line between death and sleep
I Go To Sleep
Every night, I go to sleep
It all goes black
The TV turns on
Then I come back
I live my day
Think my thoughts
And breathe the air
Then at night, I go to sleep
Like I was never there
As I slip away into my night
Fading sound and fading sight
I wonder from the dimming light
Is this what death is like?
I may not dream
I may not feel
My life may not have even been real
But the TV was on…
While I was asleep
But when I die,
It may not be.
Where was I before my life?
Wasn’t I dead before I was born?
In a way I was, by not being there.
But now that I’m here, I can only leave or stay
So what makes death death… is the going away.
